Topeka Metro testing out electric buses

The Capitol City is working to get more environmentally friendly.

Topeka Metro was testing out an electric bus Tuesday morning to see if it could become a regular part of their 26 clean diesel bus fleet.

The Metro says the Proterra Catalyst Battery Electric bus has the greatest range of zero emission, battery electric in its class. So far, has provided over 2.5 million miles of services in the U.S.

General Manager Susan Duffy says not only are the buses good for the environment, they are good for people in the city as well.

"You guys are all used to hearing the big diesels coming down the street but right now, the bus is running and you hear nothing.," she said. "So it's quiet on the inside and quiet on the outside."

Duffy also wanted to remind all veterans they can ride the Metro free during the month of November. All they need is their DD 214 form.
