Electric bus manufacturer joins in critical relief efforts

GREENVILLE, S.C. – October 12, 2015 — Proterra, a provider of zero emission battery-electric buses, today announced that it will make a donation to the American Red Cross-South Carolina Floods Fund to support relief efforts for thousands of residents in South Carolina impacted by the historic flood. Proterra’s contribution to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund will help support individuals and families affected by the heavy rainfall.

“Proterra is proud to call South Carolina home. We feel it is critical as an engaged community member to lend our assistance during this catastrophe,” said Ryan Popple, CEO, Proterra. “Unprecedented floodwaters have caused severe hardship for thousands of people throughout the region. As part of our commitment to the greater South Carolina community, Proterra is providing this support to the American Red Cross to help ensure the needs of our friends and neighbors are being addressed.”

Torrential rains and highly unusual flooding hit South Carolina this week, with some parts of the state receiving over 24 inches of water. Flooding has killed at least 17 people and left thousands without power and water. The American Red Cross is currently on the ground in affected areas setting up shelters and providing immediate relief through supplies, technical assistance and other support to those in need.
